React JS

The time has finally come, I have completed the coding portion of ROOTs Technology Coding & Career Prep, and I’m here to tell you about it!

Similar to HTML, CSS, & JavaScript, I had no previous knowledge of the JavaScript library, only seeing it while watching those popular “Day in the life of a Software Engineer” videos we all like to search up on YouTube.

I'm going to be honest, this module really pushed me and forced me to think like a software engineer. There were times when I didn’t think I could finish an application, subsequently, following with emails to my mentor in “how to do this” and “how to do that.” But, in this industry, slow is fast, and fast is slow. Yes, you should have a general outline of what your app will look like, but if you don’t attack the code line by line, section by section, you open yourself up for future bugs down the line.

The most challenging part of this module was by far, creating my music app. Having to decipher through Spotify’s documentation, understanding the type of code flow I needed for authorization, and implementing that in my app was tough at first, but only made it that much sweeter in the end!

In contrast, the most rewarding part of this module was seeing my music app come to fruition. All the time I put into bringing the application to life was well worth it. There’s no better feeling in the world than going to a webpage and seeing the title “Obi’s Music App” and remembering all the work you put into it. Similar to catching a deep post over the middle on 3rd & 8 to seal the game, that feeling of being unstoppable, there’s nothing like it!

And that my friends, is why I love being a Software Engineer!
